Who We Are

The Comfort House of Augusta provides “a home away from home” to patients and caregivers from outside of the Augusta area who have found themselves in need of lodging and support while seeking treatment in the area. Our caring volunteers provide affordable lodging and supportive companionship in an effort to improve the health and welfare of families in the midst of medical crisis.

The Comfort House of Augusta (CHoA) was founded in 1988 by Joseph Fournier for the purpose of providing affordable housing to seriously ill adults being treated in local medical facilities.

Built in early 1900’s, this 6-bedroom historic home is located only a few blocks from The Medical College of Georgia. Our home offers suites with private bathrooms for a relaxing place to rest and recover. While we know that there is no place like home, we strive for CHoA to serve as a "home away from home" to guests and families. Full use of the back garden, laundry, kitchen, WiFi, and sitting room are available for guests and encouraged to be used.

Who We Serve

CHoA supports guests in their times of need which allows them to focus on healing themselves or their loved one and to manage what is usually one of the largest crisis of their lives. Our guests come from near and far, both urban and rural areas, in-state and from across the country. Most people are not prepared for a medical crisis and in the midst of having to come to a new city, find themselves in an expensive hotel or sleeping in a waiting room. At CHoA, we want to help remove that burden of where to sleep so that guests can focus on the bigger picture.

Our requirements for staying here are simple; a guest must live 40 miles outside of Augusta and be receiving medical services in one of the Augusta medical facilities.  We gladly serve patients receiving outpatient care and/or their caregiver.

We currently provide service to patients and family members at area hospitals and medical facilities including The Medical College of Georgia, University Hospital, Doctors Hospital, the VA Medical Center, and Eisenhower Army Hospital.

Thank you for your continued support of the Comfort House of Augusta. We are honored to be a small part of restoration in the lives of those we serve.
